Location: Various locations across South East London (Bexley and surrounding areas)
Salary: £28-£30k per year/£13.40-£14.40ph (depending on age, qualifications, and experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Sessional contracts available
We are recruiting for a leading provider of childcare provision for children and young people in London who are looking for a Youth Development Coach to join their team.
They work across schools and communities delivering sport, education, and creative interventions programmes, including wraparound care, after school clubs, holiday clubs, and specialist provision for some of the most vulnerable young people.
This role would be perfect for someone who already has experience working with children and young people who may have SEND and SEMH needs that require a tailored and patient approach to their support, including working collaboratively with schools, families, and external providers.
The Role
Amongst other things, you'll be needed to:
Deliver structured and flexible sessions for referred young people in either 2:1, 1:1 or small groups
Build strong, trusting relationships with children and young people who are often facing complex or challenging circumstances
Work collaboratively with schools, families, and external professionals to provide consistent and joined-up support
Support transitions into or between educational settings, acting as a bridge and advocate for the young person
Provide tailored support to children with behavioural needs, creating strategies to manage their behaviours and help them develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills
Use positive reinforcement, de-escalation techniques, and consistent boundaries to manage challenging behaviour and help children stay engaged in learning and activities
Track each child's progress and work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that strategies and goals are aligned
Respond calmly and appropriately in moments of crisis, using approved techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of the child and others.
The Person
As a Youth Development Coach, you will ideally bring:
Experience working with children or young people in a coaching, education, youth work or care environment
A background in sports coaching or creative activity planning and delivery
Relevant qualifications in education, sports coaching, youth work or childcare (or willingness to train)
Experience supporting children with SEND
Knowledge of trauma informed or therapeutic approaches
An up-to-date DBS
Strong communication and relationship building skills
Empathy, patience, and resilience
Flexibility and adaptability to work across different settings and environments
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
Confident communicating with children, parents and carers, schools and local authorities
